International Prep School
A German qualification has a strong reputation around the world because of the high quality of the programmes on offer. The admission requirement for applicants from abroad is a university entrance level qualification equal to German standards. Prospective students from abroad who do not meet this requirement but would like to study in Germany need to complete a one-year preparatory course at a college in Germany and pass an exam that confirms their suitability for studying at a German university. This exam is the so-called ‘Prüfung zur Feststellung der Eignung für die Aufnahme eines Fachstudiums an einer deutschen Hochschule’, or ‘Feststellungsprüfung’ for short. Places at public preparatory colleges are however very limited, making it difficult for foreign applicants to gain access to German higher education.
The International Prep School (IPS) is an educational project run by the HWTK’s Institute of International Educational and Social Research (IBS) in cooperation with F+U Group and the Academy of Languages. It offers preparatory courses for the Feststellungsprüfung to prospective HWTK students from abroad who do not meet the above-mentioned requirement. The courses are focused on economics and participants will take the external Feststellungsprüfung at the Technical University of Berlin. The nine-month course is offered twice a year at the centrally located F+U Academy of Languages (AOL) campus in Heidelberg. Participants who pass the Feststellungsprüfung are guaranteed a place at the HWTK.
